A new restaurant will soon open in Bloomfield from some well-established Pittsburgh restaurant owners.
Troy Beck and Katie Peric, who helm Given to Fly in the Federal Galley, will be taking over the space that once housed the recently-closed Station on Liberty Avenue.
Although they’re known for their phenomenal fried chicken sandwiches at Given to Fly, Beck and Peric’s new restaurant will feature a decidedly different menu.
“It’s going to be a completely new concept for us,” says Beck. “Nothing is totally finalized yet, but it’s going to be a little higher end, while still keeping Pittsburgh in mind. There will be nothing that my parents wouldn’t know what it is will be on the menu.”
And, while that menu isn’t fully realized yet, Beck says that it will include some homages to its neighborhood in Little Italy, and will feature some homemade pasta dishes, along with other mainstays, like steak frites.
“Anything that Katie and I do, we just want to do things that we like to eat,” he says. “It’s not really for anyone but ourselves, and we always want to make our favorites.”
The idea has been in the works for awhile, since Station owner Curtis Gamble announced in February that the restaurant would be closing.
“Curtis is a friend from years ago, and Station was one of my favorite restaurants,” Beck says. “I live nearby, so after work, I would just go there to stop by and see the staff, and have a bite. When I found out that he was moving, we had some conversations, and had the idea that I could take over this space.”
Beck says that because they’ll be essentially taking over the Station space, there isn’t a lot of renovations that need to happen (“I could go in there and dust off the flat top and make a burger tomorrow if I wanted to,” he says), so expect to see a soft opening happen in about a month or so, with other details announced shortly.
The restaurant will be open for lunch and dinner, and, although there will be a set menu, they’ll also have nightly specials.
“To me, it’s more about the community than it is about the food,” Beck says. “I just miss going out somewhere after 10:00 p.m. and being able to get good food. I feel like Bloomfield is kind of the last Pittsburgh neighborhood to be a real neighborhood, and I wanted to really embrace that.”
