Craft beer has come to Canonsburg!
Rusty Gold Brewing, a brewery that has been in the works for almost two years, is finally opening today on Pike Street in Canonsburg. Located in the space that was formerly occupied by Toy’s My Way Cafe, Rusty Gold Brewing is area’s first microbrewery.
While the space will be serving a plethora of craft beer, that won’t be the only thing happening at Rusty Gold. In terms of beer, Rusty Gold will start by running five of their own beers: a cream ale, an IPA, a pale ale, an amber ale, and an oatmeal stout. Additionally, the brewery will be serving Aurochs Brewing beer, a gluten-free brewery located near Neville Island, along with cider from Arsenal Cider, mead from Apis Mead in Carnegie, and wine from Washington Winery.
The bar will also be mixing up a rotating selection of seasonal cocktails, once again, comprised from local spirit providers – Boyd and Blair vodka, Maggie’s Farm Rum, and Liberty Spirits whiskey.
To keep things new, the ciders, meads, and outside beers will be rotated frequently. Eventually, Rusty Gold hopes to serve eight of their of our own beer
s on drafts.
Already excited? We haven’t even gotten to the food.
Rusty Gold’s food menu will also be rotating and seasonal, changed daily on a chalkboard in the restaurant. Some staples of the menu include shared plates, burgers, sandwich, salads, flatbread, and desserts. A few of the menu’s unique features include their wing sauce, which is a variation on blue cheese that’s made with homemade ranch and feta, Rusty Gold’s Truffle-loaded fries, and their homemade pork rinds.
Continuing their effort to keep everything local, Emerald Valley Farms is providing the cheese for the restaurant.
For the space itself, customers can expect the interior of the restaurant to look like an old-style tavern. Everything except the chairs are handmade, with a lot of it being created from old barn wood. There are also quirky features, like reclaimed church pew seats.
“The decorations are all stuff I’ve collected,” says ower E.J. Kleckner, “Everything has a story, even down to the reclaimed wood.”
Kleckner says he’s excited to finally be opening his doors to the public, after working on this project for nearly two years, as he first purchased the space in September of 2015.
“They say it takes a town, and in this case, it pretty much did,” says Kleckner. “I used every person I knew, every favor I had. People have been complimenting me, and there have been a lot of other people who helped make me look good. It took a lot of people to make this happen.”
Kleckner isn’t the only one excited for the brewery to be open.
“I’ve been getting a lot of message from local craft beer fans who are excited to not have to drive 30 minutes to get a beer,” he says.
