Following a two-year hiatus, the Pittsburgh Pierogi Festival is back on May 17, with more than 100 pierogi and pierogi-inspired dishes.
The festival, which is being held at SouthSide Works, will include two dozen pierogi vendors, including four out-of-state vendors from Michigan, Ohio, Texas and West Virginia, along with pierogi-inspired brews and cocktails, a pop-up pierogi marketplace, free activities and live music.
The “bigger and better” pop-up market will feature glassware, pottery, ornaments, apparel, accessories and home goods, and food items, like baked goods, pierogi toppings, and condiments. There will also be ‘Paint Your Own Pierogi’ activities, complimentary face painting, and appearances by the Pittsburgh Pirates’ racing pierogies.
As in previous years, the pierogies will the be star of the show. Festival favorites, like the PGH Pierogi Truck will have pierogies and pierogi platters, along with frozen options to take home, and Michele’s Mobile Meals’ popular ‘Pittsburgh in a Cup,’ with a hand-made potato cheddar pierogi, kielbasa, cabbage, and cheese will once again be available.

Other dining options include Le’s Oriental, Las Chicas, Pietrzyk Pierogi (from Detroit, Michigan), and The Pierogi Lady, who will be joining the festival from Akron, and bringing four different flavors of hand-made piergoi, plus haluski and kielbasa.
And, locally, you’ll be able to enjoy pierogies from Braddock Public House (handmade potato and cheese, plus sweet potato with miso caramel and almond), Polska Laska and The Speckled Egg, 5 Generation Bakers (offering a pierogi hoagie), and The Oven Pizza Co., which has created a pierogi-inspired pizza called ‘The Polish Hill,’ made with sour cream and chive potatoes, caramelized onions, bacon, cheese and chive sour cream.
