On the heels of news that the Cleveland-based Platform Beer Co. has plans to open a brewery in Garfield later this year, they’ve also announced a sweet collaboration with a beloved Pittsburgh bakery.
Platform and Prantl’s Bakery have teamed up to create a special Burnt Almond Torte-flavored Blonde Ale, inspired by Prantl’s famous dessert, which was once called the “greatest cake America has ever made.”
“As we were looking to create a space in Pittsburgh, we kept hearing about the Burnt Almond Torte,” says Platform’s Matt Subel in a release. “We had just started testing out some dessert-inspired sours, and they have been some of our most successful releases.”
Hence, the idea to create Torte, the torte-flavored Blonde Ale, was born.
Torte will be released to the public on April 12 in Platform’s Cleveland, Columbus and Cincinnati tasting rooms, and will be sold at various retailers and craft beer stores throughout Ohio, West Virginia and Pennsylvania starting on April 15. It will also be available at a limited number of Giant Eagle locations in Ohio and Pittsburgh.
