Pittsburgh, you have a new way to satisfy your sweet tooth.
NatuRoll Creamery officially opened today in Lawrenceville, serving up a unique frozen treat – ‘rolled’ ice cream.
Here’s how it works: Creamy ice cream batter is poured onto a below-freezing metal plate, then a spatula is used to chop and spread a variety of mix-ins and additions, like pretzels, cookies, chocolate chips, peanut butter and Nutella. The ice cream batter freezes, and is then scraped into ice cream ‘rolls,’ placed in a cup, and more garnishes are added on top.
The ice cream batter menu will change regularly, with flavors including berry, salted caramel and coffee mocha.
Rolled ice cream originated with street vendors in Thailand, and shops have recently popped up in New York City and Philadelphia, though this is the first rolled ice cream spot in Pittsburgh.
NatuRoll is located at 4318 Butler Street.
