Diners at East Liberty’s Dinette don’t have to ask where the produce comes from – they just have to look up.
Chef and owner Sonja Finn, along with her father, Seth, have been cultivating a rooftop garden throughout the summer, and they’ve been sharing lots of photos – and menu additions – to their Facebook page.
Early in the season, rooftop-grown bibb lettuce had a starring role in Dinette’s salad mimosa, and cornichons have been making an appearance in the tabbouleh salad.
The team has recently harvested their first batch of homegrown tomatoes, which have been added to a few specialty salads. They’ve been in the Srpska, with roasted hot peppers, onion, feta, and grilled bread. And, they’ve also been part of a Lentils du Puy salad, with rooftop arugula, lardons, chives, and topped with a crispy poached egg. Sounds delicious.
Follow along with the garden’s progress (and see what you can enjoy on the menu each night!) here.
