What to do with all of those tomatoes from your garden? Slow Food Pittsburgh has a few ideas.
This Sunday, August 17, they’re hosting a full day of canning classes at Harvest Valley Farms in Valencia.
Attendees will learn all of the techniques for saving a little bit of summer for the entire year.
On the agenda:
- A Harvest Valley field tour with farmer Art King, tasting heirloom tomatoes and other varietals
- A class demo from author Miriam Rubin, who will be teaching two recipes from her book “Tomatoes, a Savor the South Cookbook.”
- Kathy King will demo her sweet tart Tomato Jam, which attendees will then sample on bruschetta, with Cherish Creamery goat feta
- Nancy Hanst and Amy Baer will teach a basic tomato canning class
The event takes place from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., and tickets are $20 per person, or $15 if you’re a full-time student.
