It’s official: The Coop Chicken & Waffles is now open on the North Side.
The popular food truck first announced that they were opening a brick-and-mortar late last year, in the former Rita’s Italian Ice location on the corner of East Ohio Street and Cedar Avenue.
On the menu at The Coop, you’ll find fried chicken tenders, whole wings and dark meat (available in orders of two, three and six), to pair with fresh-made waffles, available in Plain (a Belgian waffle with a hint of vanilla), Cheddar Cornbread, Cinnamon Roll (topped with cinnamon and cream cheese glaze), Red Velvet, and Bananas Foster.
Other menu options include ‘The Cooper,’ made with fried chicken on grilled Texas toast with fried pickles, and the ‘Chick-n-Waffle,’ a waffle with shredded chicken baked right inside.
Side dishes include Mac & Cheese, fresh-cut fries and fried pickles, and a number of sauces are available, including Maple Syrup, Sriracha Syrup, Chipotle Sauce, and their own house ‘Coop’ Sauce.
Owners Nicki Cardilli and Justin Fitzgerald told us in November the story of how they started their business four years ago, after renovating an out-of-operation school bus. The duo used family recipes to create their food truck menu, hitting up festivals and breweries throughout the city.
The Coop Chicken & Waffles is currently open for takeout only, Tuesdays through Sundays from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
