If you (somehow) haven’t tried one of these delicious treats, chances are, you’ve seen them on Instagram.
The much-loved Pittsburgh sweet shop, The Milk Shake Factory, is currently in the process of opening a new location on the corner of Penn Avenue and Highland Avenue in East Liberty.
The project is currently under construction, and hopes to open in the fall of 2018.
The Milk Shake Factory began in 1914 as a small soda fountain and chocolate shop in Lawrenceville. Today, the brand has two Pittsburgh locations (South Side & Downtown) and is currently in the midst of a nationwide expansion.
“The Milk Shake Factory® and Tull Investment Group announce a partnership that will expand the two-store chain to 25 locations over the next three years,” says The Milk Shake Factory on their website.
Earlier this year, the shop also announced that they would begin sourcing their dairy from local Washington, PA, dairy farm, Rivendale Farms. Using Rivendale milk, The Milk Shake Factory has begun making farm fresh ice cream in-house. This shift to homemade has already allowed the shop to expand their menu to include new offerings, such as the brand-new “Birthday Cake” shake (yum).
When The Milk Shake Factory opened their Downtown location in 2016, guests were immediately taken with the retro design of the shop. The East Liberty location will have similar look, however, there will be one very addition that is very 2018 – touchscreen computers! At the new shop, customers will order via touch screens, similar to those at Honeygrow, a fast-casual restaurant located next door.
“We are going to have a visual ordering experience,” says Jenny Osterman, communications manager for Edward Marc Brands. “You can scroll through pictures of shakes and sundaes. You can order with your eyes, and browse by flavor.”
The Milk Shake Factory is hiring for the new location, and those interested can apply online.
