It’s been a sad week for Pittsburgh restaurant fans.
On Friday, Oak Hill Post owners Christian Schulz and Rebecca Nicholson announced they would officially be closing their popular Brookline restaurant, only a few months after switching from a breakfast and lunch spot (with those biscuits!), to a dinner-only restaurant.
The restaurant’s final day of service of was January 25, but, in a new message, Schulz writes that in the coming weeks, they’ll be offering a few new ways to enjoy their food.
Starting on Saturday, February 8, Oak Hill Post will have a small selection of heat-at-home foods available for in-store pickup, and will be rotating through a selection of ready-to-eat items as well (which we can expect, as he notes, “a few of Pittsburgh’s best breakfast foods to make an appearance”). Weekend takeout service will continue through Saturday, March 15.
For anyone who has an unused gift card to Oak Hill Post, this is your chance to use them.
And, just today, chef/owner Chris Bonfili announced that he would be closing Bonfire Food & Drink, his South Side restaurant in the coming weeks.
In an Instagram post, Bonfili shares that the closure of his six-year-old restaurant comes with a heavy heart, but was the right choice to make, sharing “After the unexpected passing of my father this past year, I’ve spent the last several months reevaluating the time, energy, and schedule that being the chef/owner of an independent restaurant requires. Although my passion for the business still runs deep, my commitment and desire to live the chef life has waned. With my children in high school and middle school, I’m looking forward to focusing on my family and living more of the dad life for this next chapter.”
Bonfili tells us that he’s excited to be able to go out on his own terms.
“And I’ll still be doing popups and wine dinners,” he says. “All my chef friends that I’ve been telling have been saying, ‘My kitchen is available if you want,’ so I know I won’t be able to stay away forever.”
Bonfire’s final brunch service will be Sunday, February 2, and the last dinner service will be on February 15.
