After months of anticipation, Roger Li’s Umami has officially opened its doors in Lawrenceville.
Located in the space above Round Corner Cantina, the izakaya (a Japanese-style pub) is serving up Japanese street food, with a menu that reads like it’s straight out of Tokyo. At the heart of the menu is an ever-changing sushi list, sashimi, rice bowls, and robatayki skewers cooked on a charcoal grill – beef tenderloin, chicken heart, and shrimp are just a few options.
Li is also offering a selection of hand-rolled Temaki options, and small-plate dishes, including his much-loved Tonkotsu Ramen.
The dessert menu offers a few sweet treats, like a Nashi tart with yuzu pear and brown sugar crumble, and Castella, a matcha sponge cake with white chocolate ganache and a sesame lace cookie.
Over at the bar, you’ll find a selection of sake bottles, Japanese beer, wine, and craft cocktails – we’re recommending the Fuji Slushee, with Maggie’s Farm rum, ginger-coriander matcha, lime, and a matcha pocky stick.
Umami is open for dinner and drinks Tuesdays through Saturdays starting at 4:30 p.m.
