Union Pig & Chicken has announced that it will be closing its East Liberty location.
The fried chicken and BBQ restaurant made the announcement in a lengthy Facebook post, citing “myriad reasons, both large and small,” for not renewing their location lease, but making a special note of how much their East Liberty neighborhood has changed in the five years since the restaurant first opened.
The restaurant has not yet announced an official closing date, or any future plans, leaving open the possibility that we’ll all be able to enjoy the city’s best fried chicken, and artfully-named cocktails at some other location in the future.
Union Pig & Chicken was first opened by Kevin Sousa in 2012, and is now owned by Jessicarobyn Keyser. Since its opening, the restaurant enjoyed glowing reviews, including a recent one from The Pittsburgh Tribune Review’s Sarah Sudar, calling the fried chicken a “showstopper.”
The restaurant is still currently in operation, and invites patrons to “come on in for some poutine & Banh Mi. Graffiti our bathrooms, bitch about the starkly decorated dining room, wash it all down with a beer, and enjoy some more good times in the place where it all began.”
