In 2013, GTECH Strategies, a Pittsburgh-based non-profit that is dedicated to growing the green economy in our area, set out to grow hops on an unused lot in Garfield Community Farm.
They planted a few variety of hops for East End Brewery, and it worked so well, East End made some brews from them.
Tomorrow, GTECH will be partnering with East End, Wigle Whiskey, and Marty’s Market for a celebratory evening of wet-hopped brews and sustainable and locally-produced food. And – for the first time ever – Wigle Whiskey will be unveiling its brand-spankin’-new, locally-hopped whiskey for tastings.
The event goes down at the Wigle Whiskey Barrel House on Friday, October 3 at 6:00 p.m. Tickets are $35 each, and include three East End beers that have been wet-hopped, a taste of Wigle’s new hopped whiskey, snacks and hors d’oeuvres from Marty’s Market, and a beer glass to take home.
And the best part is that all of the funds raised will go toward sustaining GTECH’s re-used vacant spaces, and making the city more sustainable (and beautiful).
