Walkabout Apple Whiskey – one of Wigles most buzzed-about spirits – is returning to Pittsburgh this October. To celebrate, Wigle is throwing a three-day apple festival that will definitely be pomme-diggity!
Walkabout Whiskey was first developed four years ago at Chatham University, when Wigle co-owner Meredith Grelli Masters was teaching a New Product Development course in their Food Studies program.
This whiskey combines American whiskey with the flavor of locally-pressed apples. To achieve its signature apple flavor, apple-wood staves are added directly to 8 to 24-month old small-cask whiskey barrels. The whiskey ages for an additional six weeks with the staves. After aging, whiskey is diluted with freeze-concentrated apple cider from Soergel’s in Wexford, PA.
Held from Friday, October 6 to Sunday, October 8, apple and whiskey fans alike will be able to enjoy treats like cider from the soon-to-open Threadbare Cider, apple cinnamon frozen yogurt, apple whiskey tastings, and more!

Friday, October 6: Walkabout Apple Whiskey Release
Head to the Wigle Whiskey Barrelhouse & Whiskey Garden to celebrate the 2017 release of Walkabout Apple Whiskey at the official release party. Guests are invited to sample cider from Threadbare Cider & Mead, Wigle’s new ciderhouse, coming fall 2017.
There will also be live music, and apple themed activities (photos with Johnny Appleseed, anyone?) Black Sheep BBQ food truck will be serving BBQ, and Walkabout bottles will be discounted for the release. Tickets are $15 per person, and can be purchased online.
Saturday, October 7: Walkabout Drinking Buddies
For this event, Wigle is pairing the Walkabout Whiskey with one of their favorite Pittsburgh snacks, Banh Mi sandwiches from Blue Sparrow food truck. The Walkabout Drinking Buddies party is free to attend.
Sunday, October 8: Apple Whiskey Festival at the Wigle Distillery
For the final day of the Apple Whiskey Festival, everyone is invited to the Wigle Distillery from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. There will be Walkabout Apple Whiskey cocktail specials, family friendly apple themed activities, and live music.
Piccadilly Artisan Yogurt will be serving liquid-nitrogen apple cinnamon frozen yogurt! This event is also free to attend.
