It’s peach season, everyone! Fresh peaches (that, you know, actually taste like peaches) are only around for a limited amount of time each year, and when restaurants get access to them, they’re quick to put them on their menus. Here’s a roundup of a few places in town that currently have stellar peach dishes available.
Peach Jam Biscuits at Wise County Biscuits
Peach jam is back at Wise County Biscuits! It’s the perfectly sweet companant to their homemade biscuits. Order online for pickup at the Bloomfield Saturday Market (along with their pimento cheese, sausage gravy, and Paul Family Farm honey butter. Wise County Biscuits
Peach Crepes and Popsicles from Farmer x Baker
On the Farmer x Baker brunch menu right now are a number of peach dishes, including a peach crepe, using fresh, local peaches. They also offer a Local Peach & Ginger Fizz drink, made with Holy Basil from their own Root & Heart Farm. Plus, they have a few of their house-made Popsicles available, too (one of the latest flavors was a Chambersburg Peach & Blueberry option). Peach Melba at Oakmont Bakery
Right now, you can get this classic summer favorite from Oakmont Bakery daily. Their Peach Melba cake is made with yellow cake batter, filled with peaches and raspberries, and iced in buttercream. It’s available for $17, and each cake serves six to eight. Oakmont Bakery (One Sweet Street, Oakmont)
Grilled Peaches at Over Eden
Over Eden in Lawrenceville has a new dish on the menu: Fresh Grilled Peaches, served with coconut yogurt, harissa, herbs, toasted nuts and seeds. It’s pretty much summer on a plate. Order it for takeout, or for seated service in their outdoor area. Over Eden (177 40th Street)
Peach-Blueberry Upside Down Cake at Signature Dessert
From now through August 31, enjoy Signature Dessert’s summer special, a Peach-Blueberry Upside Down Cake, a single layer of yellow cake, with peaches and blueberries baked on top. Peach-Blueberry Upside Down cakes are $14.50 at the Castle Shannon Bakery, and serve eight to ten – sheet cakes are also available, too. Signature Desserts (3360 Library Road)
Georgia Peach Custard at Glen’s Custard
One of the all-time favorite flavors at Glen’s Custard (with locations in Lower Burrell and Springdale) is their Georgia Peach, made with sweet swirls of peach in their super-creamy custard. It’s one of our favorites for a reason! Glen’s Custard (multiple locations)
Gin and Ginger Peachy Pie at Prohibition Pastries
Boozy bakeshop Prohibition Pastries is putting in-season peaches to good use. Owner Eliza Jane Bowman created a ginger-peach pie (with a splash of gin), that’s currently now available on the bakery’s menu. Look for it in handpie ($3) or full pie ($16) forms. Order online. Peach Cobbler at Cobbler World
If you’re looking for one of the most classic peach dishes around, Cobbler World has an amazing homemade Peach Cobbler available (along with lots of other flavors, too!). Call 412-403-2158, or see them at the 11th Street Farmers Market on Sundays through July 26. Cobbler World (1059 Penn Avenue)
Spinach Peach Salad at Spirits & Tales
Did someone say ‘summer?’ Available on Spirits & Tales summer menu is a Spinach Peach salad, made with fresh spinach, grilled peaches, feta cheese, toasted walnuts, and a house-made orange buttermilk dressing. The Oakland restaurant (which is now open for takeout and limited outdoor dining), also has a Strawberry Peach Cobbler on the menu, with an oat cookie crumble, fresh fruit filling, and vanilla whipped cream.
