Farmers’ Markets Worth The Trip

August 18, 2021 by Buy Fresh Buy Local of Western PA Leave a Comment

If you’re anything like us, the need for summer adventures is at an all-time high. And we don’t mean your everyday hike. We’re talking day trips. Stepping outside of the city and experiencing the many farmers’ markets tucked inside Western Pennsylvania that are worth the trip.

Farmers markets thrive this time of year and while supporting the ones in your area makes our world go-’round, it’s never a bad idea to treat yourself to a day trip, and visiting the markets outside of your regular stops. We promise you, you won’t regret it. You may just find your new favorite market along the way.

Ligonier Country Market is the oldest and largest farmers’ market in Western PA. This spot is a prime example of a market worth the trip. Here you’ll find over 130 vendors every week featuring locally grown produce, fresh-cut flowers, grass-fed beef, poultry and eggs, specialty bread, pastries, hot prepared foods, dry goods, jewelry, purses, crafts, pet goods, handmade candles, the list goes on. Keep your eyes out for vendors like Mediterra Bakehouse, Dark Side Coffee Roasters, Pisarcik Flower Farm, Ross’s Sauces, and White Sage & Sapphire just to name a few. And don’t forget to grab a warm biscuit for the ride home. Be sure to save the dates for Ligonier Country Market’s evening markets, Holiday markets, and Harvest dinners.

The Beaver Farmers Market, open Saturday’s is another favorite farmers market which is just one of five Beaver County Markets. (Other market locations including Ambridge, Beaver Falls, Chippewa and New Brighton). Expect fresh-cut flowers from Ridgemont Farms, premium dry-aged beef by McElhaney Family Farm, farm-fresh produce from McConnells’ Farm, and fresh-picked berries, eggs, dry goods, and baked goods, wine, hot prepared meals, and handmade crafts can also be found at this market.

So what are you waiting for? Grab your reusable bag and hot cuppa-something from your local coffee shop and hop in the car this weekend to discover the best that Pennsylvania has to offer.
