After nearly two years of construction (and navigating zoning codes and inspections), Allegheny Distilling, the producer behind Maggie’s Farm Rum and Personal Day Vodka, is celebrating the official grand opening of their new restaurant and cocktail bar at its Upper St. Clair distillery.
The new McLaughlin Run Road facility features two floors, with the upstairs devoted to a 100-seat full-service restaurant and cocktail bar, with a view of the production floor below.
Maggie’s Farm restaurant, which opened quietly late last year, features a menu of comfort food favorites, including a Farm Burger (topped with Maggie’s Farm Spiced Rum bacon jam), Mac & Cheese, wild mushroom soup, and rum-braised short ribs. Desserts include a warm blondie served with Magie’s Farm spiced rum caramel sauce, and Maggie’s Farm 50/50 dark rum-infused whipped cream.
Cocktails, including tiki staples like the Zombie and the Painkiller, plus inventive concoctions, like the Mariah Cherry (50/50 dark rum, coffee liqueur, fresh-squeezed lime, black cherry, and toasted almond) are also available, and they also offer a $10 tasting flight for sampling the spirits produced at the distillery.
The opening of the 22,000-squre-foot distillery means that Maggie’s Farm Rum and Personal Day Vodka Seltzer will now be entirely produced in the South Hills, though the original Smallman Street distillery will continue retail and drink service operations.
“I saw the importance of ownership and investing in ourselves to preserve our future. Our customers’ continued support through one of the toughest small business climates in history gave me the confidence to take a much bigger step on a property than planned and build out a state-of-the-art distillery in a space that should support our growth for many more years,” says Tim Russell, founder and Master Distiller of Maggie’s Farm Rum, in a release.
Maggie’s Farm Upper St. Clair is open Wednesdays through Fridays from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., Saturdays from noon to 10:00 p.m., and Sundays from noon to 8:00 p.m.
The distillery is also celebrating the release of one of their most coveted spirts, Maggie’s Farm Queen’s Share Rum, made by collecting small “tail runnings” from normal distillations and redistilling them on their own.
A limited blend of three and seven-year old Queen’s Share rums will be available later this month, with the sale going live online at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 20.
