Looking for something fun (and socially-distant!) to do this weekend? It’s road trip time!

Hop in your car and head west to Fairfield County, Ohio for their “Trail of Scarecrows,” a spooky treasure hunt featuring hundreds of scarecrows made by local residents, businesses, and groups – and organized by area in a handy map.

Now in its second year, the county-wide event has grown: This year, there are almost 300 scarecrows and displays scattered throughout 14 communities in Fairfield County, which is just east of Columbus, Ohio, and about a two-and-a-half hour drive from Pittsburgh.

Scarecrows this year include creations like BBQ Betty, Old MacDonald, Cookie Monster, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Where’s Waldo, Hat Trick Harry, the Greatest Showcrow, Sir Scares-A-Lot, Miss Udderly Cheesey, and dozens more.

If you want to participate in the self-guided tour, check out their digital map, and click on the community name that you want to explore. On the map, you’ll find a list of scarecrows in that community, so you can plan your trip accordingly.

If you download Fairfield County’s app, they also have a county-wide challenge. When you’re within 50 feet of each scarecrow on the map, you can “check-in,” and you’ll complete the challenge when you’ve seen half of 2020’s scarecrows.

You can also vote for your favorite scarecrow online.

Find out more information by visiting the Trail of Scarecrows event page.

Fairfield County’s Trail of Scarecrows runs through October 31.
