One of Pittsburgh’s most beloved Italian eateries is expanding their footprint in the Strip District this Fall.
Pane è Pronto, an Italian takeout, bread and catering kitchen from the owners of DiAnoia’s Eatery and Pizzeria Davide will open this fall at 2627 Penn Avenue (in the former Choppin’ Block location).
Pane è Pronto will be offering house bread baked daily, and hot ready-made meals to take home, including greens and beans, meatballs, lasagna and chicken Parmsan.
Customers will also be able to purchase pasta salads, fresh pasta by the pound, and packaged homemade sauces, all featured in several DiAnoia’s dishes.
DiAnoia Eatery’s bread manager Nick Malburg (of the fantastic Wild Science Bread) will be debuting new varieties of Italian breads from different regions of Italy, like Calabrian pitta, different styles of focaccia, and ciabatta. Other featured breads will include the deck oven-baked bread, Pane è Pronto, classic sourdough, and a selection of pastries.
In a release, chef/owner Dave Anoia says that the idea of the spot was inspired by Italian delis in Long Island, where wife and co-owner Aimee DiAndrea grew up. “Places where you can duck in to grab a quick sandwich for lunch or a tray of homemade lasagna for dinner,” he says. “Pane è Pronto translates to ‘bread is ready,’ which highlights the scratch-made food you can enjoy on the go and, of course, the fresh bread you’ll smell as soon as you walk through the door.”
The space will also house a large kitchen, which the culinary team will use to prepare recipes for both restaurants, and grow its breadmaking and catering programs. Eventually, the team will be able to accommodate demand for large catering orders and will also explore more intimate, family-style options.
Pane è Pronto will be the fourth opening for Anoia and DiAndrea, who opened DiAnoia’s Eatery in 2016, followed by Strip District and Robinson Township locations of Pizzeria Davide in 2019 and 2020. They also plan to open a third Pizzeria Davide location in Carnegie later this year.
Pane è Pronto is slated to open in the Fall.
