Square Café is on the move!
The beloved Regent Square Café announced in August that it was moving to an expanded space in East Liberty (in the former BRGR/Spoon location), and now, they’ve announced that the move is happening very soon.
The cafe’s new East Liberty home originally was set to open for carryout, delivery, and dine-in service starting on Thursday, October 1, but plans have slightly changed, and the opening has been delayed by a few days due to small adjustment in the restaurant’s construction timeline.
Both dining rooms, and the restaurant’s open-air rooftop dining area will be open for in-person dining when Square Café opens its doors.
Owner Sherree Goldstein says that Square Cafe’s breakfast, brunch and lunch menu will stay fully intact, including favorites like breakfast burritos, brunch bowls, and their beloved pancake specials. New dishes will also be introduced, including avocado toast on fresh-baked sourdough bread, and a selection of fresh juices. And of course, the restaurant’s rotating list of specials (including pumpkin pancakes in October!) will be added to the menu, too.
The new space has been renovated to feature the cafe’s signature bright color palette, and the rooftop will be lined with flags demonstrating the cafe’s commitment to their welcoming policies. “Square Café is first and foremost a place for kindness, positivity, and community,” says Goldstein. “We want everyone to know that they can be at home here- this is a place of acceptance and celebration.”
The new space will also include coffee and juice bars, and Goldstein says that she plans to acquire a liquor license by the end of the year, and eventually wants to open for dinner. Plans for a walk-up window for carryout orders and to-go coffee, juices and smoothies are in the works, too.
When the restaurant opens on October 1, both dining rooms, and the rooftop area will be open for in-person dining. Entrance and exits will be one-way, and Square Café is offering touchless ordering, and single-use menus.
Carryout and delivery services at Square Café’s Regent Square location will continue through Sunday, September 27. Currently, the location is offering a selection of patrons’ favorite dishes on special, with a portion of the proceeds being donated to Frick Park via the Pittsburgh Park Conservancy.
Square Café’s East Liberty will be open seven days a week from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
In other news, Square Café’s sister store, My Goodness (which offers local groceries and prepared foods), will be expanding, and moving into the cafe’s old space by the end of October.
